All of our pumpkins are home grown from seed. There are three generations of the Maxey family involved from setting the seed to planting out and harvesting. We have thousands of Pumpkins to choose from including many varieties of squash.

 

Collect one of the wheelbarrows provided and off you go!​​​

Where Are You?

We are located on the main road (A617) between Newark and Mansfield in Kirklington. We are 4 miles from Southwell, 9 miles from Newark, 10 miles from Mansfield and 17 miles from Nottingham.

Unfortunately we are not on a bus or train route.

 

Do You Need Wellies?

Wellies or old shoes are highly advised! The field can get very muddy, especially if it rains! If it is too muddy due to weather conditions we will update our social media pages to inform you of any closures/changes.​

 

Is There Car Parking?

Yes, we have Free car parking.​​

 

Are your Pumpkins homegrown?

Yes, our pumpkins are home grown!

We grow them from seed by hand in April, then they get planted out into the field in June and continue to grow where you pick them from.  

 

Do I Need To Book?

You do not need to book to Pick a Pumpkin!​​​

 

Do You Take Credit/Debit Card?

Yes, we do. All Maxey's payment points accept card or cash payments.

Unfortunately we do sometimes suffer with poor signal for the card machines so cash is always quicker and easier.​

 

Can We Bring Pushchairs/Wheelchairs?

Yes, pushchairs and wheelchairs are allowed, however as we are in a field it can get muddy - use at your own risk! (We do not want you getting stuck!)​

 

Are There Any Toilet/Changing Room Facilities?

Portable toilets are provided and located around the site.

We have a baby changing room within our Farm Shop​

 

Is there any seating outside?

Yes, we have lots of benches​ in our food area

 

Are dogs and other animals allowed?

Unfortunately, due to hygiene reasons - dogs and other animals are not allowed.​

 

Is Smoking Allowed?

Maxey's Farm Shop and the Pumpkin Field are strictly non-smoking areas. Please be considerate.​

 

Can I Bring A Large Group/School Visit?

Yes you can. If a coach is planning on attending this must be booked in advance so there will be allocated parking for you. Children must be supervised at all times;

Maxey's is a working farm so tractors and other vehicles are always in operation.​

Do you have designated quiet times?

Our quietest days to visit are from 12th to 16th October when we invite our home schoolers, child minders and SEN groups. Otherwise, we advise visiting first thing and later in the afternoon.

P..P..Pick up a Pumpkin is a wonderful experience for all ages - with plenty of activities to please the whole family! Not to mention a unique photo opportunity!

We are situated on the main road between Newark & Mansfield (A617) in Kirklington, Nottinghamshire.

Pumpkins start from £2!

Sizes range from miniature to XXXL! The colours range from Orange, Green, Blue and White

We also have a wide selection of Squashes - perfect for cooking or creating a weird and wonderful Halloween display!

Our squashes include Onion Squash, Crown Prince, Spaghetti Squash and Turks Turban, plus many more

Remember to TAKE CARE in the field! The Pumpkins are grown where you pick them so the ground may be uneven and muddy. Wellies or boots are the best footwear.
The stalks of the Pumpkins can be prickly and break off so please pick the Pumpkin up at the base!

        INTERESTING PUMPKIN FACTS...

​-The name 'Pumpkin' comes from the Greek word 'pepon', meaning 'large melon'.

 

-Pumpkins were once used as a cure for freckles and a remedy for snakebites! Nowadays Pumpkin Seeds help men avoid prostate cancer!​

 

-Seeds from plants related to the Pumpkin have been found in Mexico, and date back to between 7000 and 5500 B.C.​

 

-The word 'Pumpkin' showed up for the first time in the fairy tale Cinderella.​

 

-The original Jack-O'-Lanterns were made with turnips and potatoes by the Irish. Pumpkin carving stems from a Celtic Tradition of turnip carving to ward off evil spirits!​

 

-The worlds largest Pumpkin recorded was more than 5 feet in diameter and weighed over 1800 pounds!
